PARTIALS/DENTURES
When patients are missing one or more teeth and the placement of implants is not indicated, teeth can be replaced using different forms of prosthetic dentistry. Partials and dentures are removable appliances that are designed to replace some or all teeth thereby improving your health as well as your general appearance. Dentures prevent the sagging of facial muscles, which occurs in older individuals who may not have teeth.  Dentures also enable you to eat and speak normally.

Partials and dentures are made of acrylic (pink plastic) or combinations of metal with acrylic. Dr. Verma says wearing something removable can compromise speech, cosmetics, and eating certain foods.  However with certain adjustments and some time to acclimate, most patients find desirable results.

There are very few dental practices in the country that have lab technicians on site.  At Verma Cosmetic and Family Dentistry we are proud to have an ACE dental laboratory on our site.  Aaron the owner of ACE dental lab personally makes Dr Verma's prosthetics.  We are very confident with the end product that is delivered to you our patient.  Aaron is a hard working experienced and confident lab technician  Our team approach allows us to give you the option of having repairs and relines done instantaneously so you do not have to go without your dentures for days while the your denture is being repaired.  We can even fabricate a new set of dentures within one day as opposed to weeks.  This is due to our team approach we have instituted on site in our office.

FAQ

What styles of full dentures are offered?
At Verma Cosmetic and Family Dentistry we want you to have the best denture you can afford. That is why we offer you a choice of three styles of dentures, each style having its own distinct advantages.

The ECONOMY DENTURE product is the most affordable denture and is selected by many patients. It is processed by our on-site lab and individually fit for you. Dr. Verma and Aaron (lab technician) will determine the size, shape and look of the teeth based on your needs. Denture teeth are first set in a wax base so you may then try them on to see how the denture will look before it is completed. We can make changes that you may choose to suit you needs. After you have approved the look of your Dentures, our lab will custom finish your denture in the permanent acrylic base material. This is the equivalent of designing your own smile. The Economy Denture is available with same-day service.

The CUSTOM DENTURE product is consists of a higher quality material that allows for a more natural-looking denture. The Custom Denture is also often available the same day, however in some cases it may take longer to design. Our practice team will inform you of the delivery time if there is a delay..

The PREMIUM DENTURE product is the most natural-looking denture. Made with the best denture teeth available, this product is highly resistant to wearing down and does not stain easily. As with the Custom Denture, the teeth are first set in wax for you to try on. Changes may be made after trying on. After you have approved the look of your Premium Denture, the lab will then custom finish your denture in the permanent acrylic base material. The Premium Denture is also often available the same day, however in some cases it may take longer. We will inform you of the delivery time so that we can plan for placement accordingly.

What types of partial dentures are available?
Verma Cosmetic and Family Dentistry offers many types of partial dentures -

VALPLAST/TCS FLEXIBLE PARTIAL
Valplast and TCS are thermoplastic partial dentures that our patients have come to love. Valplast is a flexible, biocompatible, thermoplastic nylon systme with unique physical and esthetic properties. The translucency of valplast allows it to blend naturally with surrounding teeth and tissue. Our patients have come to appreciate the lifelike esthetics of valplast and feel confident as the metal clasps of traditional partials are elminated.

CAST METAL PARTIAL
The Cast Metal partial denture are stronge, offer a good fit, and a brilliant mirrored finish. The Cast Metal partial is fabricated using a metal framework to which the on-site laboratory will attach high grade denture teeth. This partial denture will take from two to three weeks to make since our special metal framework is made by an outside laboratory.

OTER PARTIAL DENTURES
Acrylic partial dentures or flippers are the most affordable partial. The Economy partial has an acrylic (plastic) base upon which teeth are set and it is attached to natural teeth with small metal clasps. However, these partials are indicated for patients who have one or two teeth missing and have decided to not have the placement of implants or bridges. These partial dentures are considered to be a temporary option, more for esthetics and not for function.

What information is available for first-time denture patient?
If you are going to become a first-time denture wearer, please read the following information carefully.

If you suffer from tooth pain or discomfort, Dr Verma will suggest that full mouth X-rays be taken of your mouth so she can make a recommendation on the course of treatment that we can offer you.. If all other treatment options have been discussed and you require the extraction of all your teeth, we can perform placement of a new denture product. We can fabricate a temporary denture for you, in the meantime while you wait for your permanent system to be made. This called an Immediate Denture. Immediate dentures not only help you to feel comfortable with your appearance, but also helps in the healing process of your gums. Dr Verma will encourage her patients to wear the new denture immediately after tooth extractions. This will assist with healing by controlling blood loss, and will minimize discomfort when the swelling subsides.

When full mouth extractions are done the healing process takes time, often times up to six months, and in other cases longer. Each person’s physical health and oral conditions are unique, and the healing process will vary from patient to patient. During healing, it is common for the gum tissue to change and shrink often resulting in space between the gum tissue and the denture. Hence, the immediate denture may not fit as well as when first inserted. This is when a reline and/or a new denture following the shrinkage of your gums will be recommended.

Dr Verma has made avalible The New Denture Wearer Package which is available for first time denture patient and offers a significant savings to patients who have had extractions and require an immediate denture. For a comprehensive denture package, new denture patients can receive an immediate denture, a final denture and all the other necessary services to help you adjust to your new dentures after they have been properly placed. Our staff will be glad to explain the details of the package and the related savings that you can enjoy.

What other denture services do you offer at the practice?
Dr. Verma performs Extractions on a same day basis and can fabricate an Immediate denture so our patient's do not have to go without teeth for any period of time. However, please remember that various health conditions, and any medications you may be currently taking may affect this service. Dr. Verma will gladly discuss the circumstances that may affect the availability of extractions on a same day basis.

The practice performs denture Adjustments for denture that were fabricated and at our office at no charge. Most offices offer this service for the first 60 days after dentures were delivered after which adjustments are done for a fee. However, we at Verma Dental do not beleive in that, we will do as many adjustments as needed. Please remember though that an adjustment is not the solution to a loose-fitting denture; adjustments will only help alleviate soreness due to high spots where the denture rests upon your gums.

Verma Cosmetic and Family Dentistry performs Relines, which is a permanent lining that is placed on the inner surface of the denture that has been refit to the gums by way of a new impression. A reline may provide a solution to a loose-fitting denture. Relines can be done within an hour so that you do not have to be without your dentures longer than necessary.

At Verma Dental we do denture Repairs: simple repairs and repairs with impressions. Dr. Verma will need to see the denture to determine the extent of the repair required. There are situations when your denture may be unable to be repaired. Please understand this..

As an added feature Dr. Verma can also offers to place a gold crown as a denture tooth giving your denture a very natural look.

Any suggestions for adjusting to dentures?
Discomfort for the first denture and discomfort of a new denture on a long time wearer is a common occurrence. New dentures can be a somewhat trying experience for some patients, especially for first time wearers. Initially dentures often will feel strange and bulky, and will cause a feeling of fullness of the lips and cheeks. In time these feelings will subside, and you will feel more comfortable. Dr. Verma says time and patience will be your biggest allies.

Other symptoms you may experience with new dentures are slurred speech, gagging, excessive salivation and possible diminished taste. Again, these symptoms usually disappear over time. However, if they continue please contact our office to let the dental staff know about your particular difficulty. We are here to help you.

Here are some helpful suggestions to assist in your adjustment to a new denture:

Learning to chew with new dentures takes time. Start with soft foods and gradually introduce more difficult foods. Chew on both sides of your mouth at the same time to stabilize your teeth. Avoid biting into foods with your front teeth as this may dislodge your dentures.

It is especially difficult to adjust to a lower denture. Try resting your tongue against the back of the front of the lower denture to help hold it in place. Until you learn good tongue and lip control, it may be wise to use adhesives to help hold your lower denture in place. Adhesives may also be useful for upper dentures. However Dr Verma says try as much as possible not to use adhesives because they are may not be compatible with your soft tissue i.e. gums. Once you develop a habit of wearing your dentures with adhesives it will be difficult to break away from it.

It is important to remember that a lower denture often "floats" on your lower gums and will not have the suction that your upper denture has. It will move around in your mouth, even out of your mouth, until you have mastered it. Willpower and patience will be needed on your part. However if you are unable to work with bottem dentures let us know and Dr. Verma can discuss options of overdentures, so that the denture is anchored and will not be subject to movement.

At first, you may want to consider wearing your dentures all the time, even at night, to adapt to them more quickly. After you have become accustomed to them, it is advisable to take them out at night.

It is common to feel sore spots on your gums as you adjust to your new dentures. If you develop a sore spot, rinse your mouth with warm salt water and return to our office for an adjustment to the denture.

How do I care for my dentures?
Daily care and cleaning of a denture is very important to help maintain good dental health. For everyday cleaning, use a soft brush and any soft soap like a hand liquid soap, be sure to brush both the inside and outside of your denture. This will help eliminate harmful bacteria and fungi. Dr Verma also suggest soaking your dentures in water mixed with any mouth wash to prevent dentures from foul odors. Dr. Verma strongly recommends that you hold your dentures over a sink filled with water when you are cleaning your denture. This will help to prevent breakage of the denture if it is accidentally dropped. You may also want to cushion the sink and counter with a soft cloth or towel.

When should I replace my denture?
The American Dental Association recommends that dentures should be replaced every five to seven years.

Dr. Verma says it is important to have yearly check-ups done so that the she can check on the wear of your dentures and perform an oral exam to help maintain your dental health. It is also important to check for signs of oral cancer and other conditions that can potentially cause problems if ignored. Dr. Verma understands that it is normal for people's mouth to change over the years. Gradual and unnoticeable changes over time may also require replacement of your dentures. As an example, consider eyeglasses. Even though a pair of eyeglasses may be in good shape and fit comfortably, most people realize that gradual, almost unnoticeable changes in their sight require periodic exams and new glasses. Dentures are very much the same. Changes in your mouth may require the need for replacement dentures even though you may consider your current dentures to look and fit fine.
